8. Mammography
Mammography is the most important tool in the early detection of breast cancer. A mammogram is an x-ray exam of the breast and is performed to detect and identify abnormalities of the breast that appear in the form of breast lumps, calcifications, fluid-filled cysts and cancer.
Mammogram screening is recommended for all women every 1-2 years starting at age 40-50 years. Your primary care provider may recommend a mammogram sooner or more frequently if you have significant breast symptoms or if you have been determined to be at high risk for breast cancer.
Mammograms are available at our Center for Women’s Health.
9. Bone Density
DEXA scans are a safe, easy screening test for osteoporosis. Detect osteoporosis before a fracture happens, predict your chances of fracturing bones in the future, and monitor the effects of osteoporosis treatment.
Who should get a bone density scan? A bone density scan is recommended for all postmenopausal women under age 60 who have multiple risks for osteoporosis such as: small body frame, low calcium intake, sedentary lifestyle or smoking. It is also recommended for all women over age 65 regardless of additional risk factors, plus men and women who have taken anti-seizure medications or Prednisone for a prolonged period of time.
Voyage Healthcare offers Bone Density – DEXA Scans at our Center for Women’s Health office.
