Recently, Lauren Williams, M.D., was named the 2018 Family Medicine Resident of the Year by the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Williams will be joining the Voyage Healthcare team after she completes her residency in June. She will practice family medicine with obstetrics at our Maple Grove location.

Who is MAFP?
The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. MAFP promotes the specialty of family medicine in Minnesota and supports family physicians as they provide comprehensive and continuous medical care for all ages of patients. Representing more than 3,200 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students, MAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in the state of Minnesota.
About the Award
MAFP selects a third-year resident for exceptional contributions to family medicine each year, honoring them with the Family Medicine Resident of the Year award. These contributions include community involvement, leadership, and educational activities.
Dr. Williams has been actively involved in family medicine advocacy and health policy throughout her residency at the University of Minnesota North Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program, and her nominators describe her as an “advocate and a leader.”
Past MAFP president and AAFP board member Lynne Lillie, M.D., said, “Williams has been a role model in advocacy of healthy communities, family medicine and health equity.”
Aside from her residency program, Dr. Williams has served AAFP as a member of its Commission on Government Advocacy and Commission on Quality and Practice. In addition, she has been a past resident director for MAFP and was a co-creator of MAFP’s Advocacy 101 course.
Dr. Williams has also served as the resident representative for the Minnesota Medical Association Policy Council. In 2017, she was named the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Advocate of the Year.
